Chancellor Michael Martin recognized the Friends of Hilltop Tuesday for collectively contributing $1,066,494 in cash and pledges to the Forever LSU Campaign.
The Friends of Hilltop nonprofit corporation, along with other individuals, corporations and foundations raised the money for the construction of an educational facility at the LSU Hilltop Arboretum on Highland Road. The Hilltop is a 14-acre nature preserve that houses a collection of more than 150 species of native Louisiana plants.
The Friends of Hilltop needs about $200,000 to completely fund the construction. The educational facility will be apart of the arboretum’s existing buildings which house administrative offices, library and gift shop.
The Friends of Hilltop hopes to complete the final phase of construction during the first quarter of 2010.
