After a hard-fought battle Tuesday night, the LSU Tigers came up short to Tulane with a final score of 6-7.
Although the Tigers had a runner at third base prepared to tie up the game during the ninth inning, they could not come up with the win.
“We just didn’t do enough tonight,” head coach Paul Mainieri said. “That’s all. We had opportunities, but we were struggling at the plate.”
“We are going to get it straightened out and get the guys’ confidence back and get ready for Thursday.”
After remaining scoreless in the first three innings, junior catcher Michael Papierski hit a huge grand slam to give the Tigers a 5-2 lead over Tulane in the bottom of the fourth inning.
However, Tulane quickly responded hitting a double home run at the top of the fifth inning. Tulane would go on to score three more runs while the Tigers only scored one more time at the bottom of the ninth.
“It seemed like everything we hit was right at somebody, or they were making a good play,” Papierski said. “So, we got to come out tomorrow and be ready to get back to the grind.”
Next up, LSU will host Texas A&M in a three-game series starting Thursday, March 30 until Saturday, April 1.
