Deadmau5 is an internationally respected electronic music producer who performed Saturday at BUKU Music + Art Project.
Fans waited eagerly for the beginning of the show long before its start. When the beats began, the crowd doubled in size and tripled in hype. Dancers twirled with their hula-hoops and some even set up mats to break dance.
A regular music festival-goer described deadmau5 as trancy and trippy, adding that maybe these beats would be better at a different type of festival.
“Deadmau5 seems a bit trancy this year, which is unique to their sound and makes it amazing in the EDM world,” crowd member Justine Wampler said. “Although, this music festival seems to be more of a hip hop and R&B kind of scene. It just seems more hippie than all the other music.”
The Canadian record producer and DJ, born as Joel Zimmerman, produces music in the progressive house genre and has received six Grammy Award nominations. He is one of the highest paid electronic music producers in the world and has released eight studio albums, and his latest, W:/2016ALBUM/, was released last year.
While Wampler loved the beats from Deadmau5, she ran into several people in the crowd who didn’t know what to do with this type of music.
“He still has a great beat, and I like his music because I’ve been going to festivals for a while,” Wampler said.
His electric beat and visuals, despite some differing opinions, kept the majority rocking to the beat. Also, the visuals incorporated his signature mouse head. He, like Marshmello and Daft Punk, is a masked music artist.
Deadmau5 has been in the music scene for years and with that, comes experience. He has lent his expertise to many up-and-coming artists. Fellow BUKU performer, REZZ, has caught his attention.
REZZ a 21-year-old producer and DJ, graced the festival-goers of BUKU with her Saturday performance and unique take on underground techno.
Her signature fashion accessory, doubling as her identity, is her light-up glasses. When the beat drops or her visuals change, the lights on her glasses follow suit. She is currently on tour and will be performing in Miami, Florida, San Bernardino, California and Paris, France in the coming weeks.
