The long awaited season seven finale of “The Walking Dead” left fans desperately waiting, once again, for the battle against Negan.
STARS: 3/5
The entire season has been getting harsh criticism, as it jumped back and forth from the Hilltop to the Kingdom to Alexandria without much direction or action within the episodes.
When Rick, played by Andrew Lincoln, finally decided he was ready to fight again a few episodes into the second half of season seven, it seemed like the show would finally pick up the pace.
However, the show continued moving as slowly as it had been, the only difference being that Rick tried to unite all the groups to fight Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
By the last episode, it was expected that a huge battle would break out, but viewers were let down once again, with the finale having only a few memorable moments.
For any other show, this would have been a successful finale, but by the standards for “The Walking Dead”, a show that is known for its outlandish premieres and finale episodes, it was a major letdown.
Sasha (Sonequa Martin) was introduced in season three but only recently developed into a main character. She is still devastated by the brutal death of her lover Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) who was murdered by Negan in the premiere episode.
Eugene, played by Josh McDermitt, is a character who recently switched to Negan’s side. He gave Sasha a suicide pill at the end of the previous episode, which she uses to her advantage when Negan locks her up in a steel casket to use against Rick when they go to Alexandria.
This shows that Sasha is a very brave character — or should I say was?
She took the suicide pill and turned into a walker, killing a few of Negan’s followers when he released her from the casket. It was a perfect end to Sasha’s story; she got the revenge she wanted on Negan for killing Abraham.
It gave the people of Alexandria the upper hand for a bit, but Negan got Rick and Carl (Chandler Riggs) down on the ground right at the same time that Michonne (Danai Gurira) shrieked from on top of a building where she was being attacked by someone aligned with Negan.
Negan could tell Rick was breaking down and rubbed it in his face. He was about to kill Carl, when suddenly, King Ezekiel’s, played by Khary Payton tiger Shiva jumped out of nowhere and killed one of Negan’s guys. The Kingdom and the Hilltop flood Alexandria and then begin attacking Negan and his army.
It ends with Negan escaping, of course, holding his middle finger out of the window of the truck he was in.
The episode definitely had its moments, but if the show doesn’t pick up soon, fans will be too bored and stop watching for good.
