In what was expected to be a pitcher’s duel, the LSU bats exploded for 10 runs through seven innings.
The Tigers tattooed Kentucky’s Sean Hjelle, who was the SEC Pitcher of the Year, for 10 runs on 11 hits through five innings.
The bats were led by senior shortstop Kramer Robertson, whose three-run home run capped off the scoring in the sixth inning for the Tigers. Robertson finished the night with four RBIs.
Besides Robertson, all nine of LSU’s nine starters had hit on the night. Antoine Duplantis had three hits, two of which were doubles, and an RBI.
The Tigers have now scored 10-plus runs in four straight SEC games, which is the most since they did it five times in a row in 2000.
Alex Lange threw another complete game shutout, and chalked up seven strikeouts on the night, which was enough to pass Ben McDonald for the second most strikeouts in program history.
The Tigers were once again helped defensively by freshman center fielder Zach Watson. Watson chased down multiple fly balls on the warning track to keep Kentucky off of the base path.
LSU will play again Saturday in the semifinals against the winner of South Carolina and Kentucky.
