And on the first day of February, Beyoncé said, “Let there be twins.”
That’s right, everyone’s favorite H-Town native is pregnant, and, like all things Bey, it’s extra, it’s fabulous, it’s glamorous and it comes in twos.
On April 23 of last year, the superstar released her “Lemonade” album which included a slew of sentiments toward her hip-hop mogul husband, Jay-Z’s, alleged infidelity.
Which leaves me wondering, what rekindled the love flame between them? Did Becky with the good hair get her head — I mean hair — chopped off? Either way, Bey and Jay are on the way to their next big empirical move: two more babies.
But, do we really think it’s the best decision for women to look up to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s relationship? In a world full of “relationship goals,” theirs shouldn’t be one. Now before the BeyHive swarms, hear me out.
In her Destiny’s Child days, Beyoncé preached nothing but that of being an independent woman. But all celebrities are human and 1,000 percent capable of making mistakes.
Unfortunately for them, their mistakes are put on display for the whole world to see. So, naturally, they receive the most judgment. Forgiveness is necessary for your own wellbeing, but the line in the sand should be drawn at being unfaithful.
Asia Dolman, a political communications junior, argues that continuing to be with the same man through cheating issues shows strength, in that it shows patience, understanding, and forgiveness.
She also proposed that as much as we do know about the lives of celebrities, there’s a lot that we don’t know. She stated that “We don’t know to what degree he cheated” — but therein lies the point: He cheated and doesn’t deserve to be catered to.
“When you bring kids into the equation, everything changes,” said junior human resource education major Briana Rambo.
The adultery, as we know it, did not start until after the birth of their first born child, Blue Ivy.
First came love, then came marriage, then came a baby, then came a fight in the elevator between Beyoncé’s sister, Solange, and Jay-Z.
When the elevator brawl happened, allegations of an affair between Jay-Z and Rachel Roy — a nobody — swarmed the social media world. But with Blue in mind, Beyoncé stayed by his side.
Without stating the obvious, Mrs. Carter must truly have love for the man considering she’s having two more of his children. Let’s hope this isn’t one major publicity stunt.
Some may argue that while “Lemonade” was supposedly written about the affair, maybe the album was simply written to be relatable, rather than accurate.
Regardless, once a cheater, always a cheater. There’ll be another album about his unfaithfulness soon. As we all know, good things come in twos.
