Organizer of the walk out, Melinda Gonzalez said she thought the meetings would have eight to 10 people tops, not 40 crammed in one room.
They started brainstorming things they wanted to do, and the walk out became the obvious answer. One student said they should make sure to not make the protests about President Donald Trump, but focus on the travel ban.
Gonzalez said she and the other student were driven by passion and the urge to stand for people affected by this ban. They aimed to let people of different backgrounds know they are not alone.
Gonzalez stated that this isn’t about her. She is not the face of this movement, this is about the immigrants, and she stands with them and for them.
This is not the last thing Gonzales has in store. She hopes to expand and continue to do things like this in the community at large.
