In its first home match of the season, the LSU men’s tennis team lost to Santa Clara, 4-3.
The Tigers started the match by taking the doubles point.
However, the singles round did not go in the Tigers’ favor, as they lost four out of the six matches.
Santa Clara’s Vasileios Iliopoulos defeated LSU freshman Eric Samuelsson 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) in the individual match that ultimately decided the team match.
“It certainly shouldn’t have come down to [Samuelsson] who’s just got here in January,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “We should’ve been able to handle it with some of the other guys.”
The Tigers host North Florida at the LSU Tennis Complex on Friday, Feb. 10. North Florida is 2-2 on the season and defeated Miami (FL) in their last match.
