Just a week after the LSU football program parted ways with running backs coach Jabbar Juluke and wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig, head coach Ed Orgeron announced the hiring of their replacements.
“We want to introduce you to two great families and as you can see, two wonderful men, two wonderful husbands, and two great football coaches that have come to LSU,” Orgeron said.
LSU added New Orleans native, Mickey Joseph to take over as wide receivers coach and Tommie Robinson to take the job of running backs coach. Robinson is also LSU football’s new recruiting coordinator and will hold the title of assistant head coach.
Mickey Joseph is joining LSU from Louisiana Tech. The Nebraska alumnus carries 20 years of coaching including a year as head coach of his high school alma mater Archbishop Shaw High School in New Orleans.
As for Robinson, he joins the Tigers coaching staff from the University of Southern California where he became an acclaimed recruiter and running backs coach. Robinson also had a stint in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys.
Robinson’s recruiting ability was praised last year as he was named PAC-12 Recruiter of the Year.
“He is the number two ranked recruiter in the country,” Orgeron said. “He is going to be a tremendous asset.”
Tommie Robinson is a precious coup for the LSU coaching staff. For Robinson, there was one main reason for his move to LSU.
“The sell was Coach O,” Robinson said. “At the end of the day, it was all about him. He is a true friend of mine.
“I’ve been coaching football for almost 32 years, and in 2013, I had the most fun I ever had coaching football, and that was with Coach Orgeron.”
With a fully restored coaching staff, the Tigers are ready to hit spring practice running.
