In LSU’s first road contest of the season, the Tigers surrendered a five-run lead, losing to the University of New Orleans, 11-8.
It was a tale of two games for the Tigers (3-1) as LSU dominated the first four innings of the game.
Back-to-back home runs in the second, by senior designated hitter Bryce Adams and sophomore outfielder Brennan Breaux gave the Tigers and 2-0 lead.
LSU tacked on two runs in the fourth with RBIs from Adams and Breaux, who led the way offensively for LSU. Breaux went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and the home run while Adams went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run.
Senior shortstop Kramer Robertson connected on his first home run of the season in the fifth to extend the Tiger lead to 6-1.
Sophomore pitcher Caleb Gilbert was effective for the Tigers through four innings, holding UNO to one run and striking out five, in four innings of work. LSU coach Paul Mainieri pulled Gilbert in favor of junior pitcher Hunter Kiel.
It went all downhill from there.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Privateers scorched LSU for six runs to take a 7-6 lead. Kiel and senior pitcher Collin Strall struggled in the inning to stop the bleeding as the two pitchers allowed six hits that set up the six runs scored in the fifth by UNO.
UNO added to its lead in the sixth, tacking on four runs including a homer from Tristian Clarke and another run scored off of a single by Orynn Veillon.
In total, the Tigers’ bullpen allowed 10 runs on nine hits with just one strikeout.
LSU will have a quick turnaround, as the Tigers will face Hofstra on Wednesday at Alex Box Stadium.
