DJ Bow Wow presents Nicholas Payton on the Magical Mystery Tour, Wednesday, August 16 at 8 p.m. CST.
Taking up the trumpet at the age of 4, Nicholas Payton began playing professionally in New Orleans at 10 years old.
Recording his first studio album at the age of 20 he quickly rose to a prominent role in the jazz community, earning the title of “Young Lion of Jazz,” along with Roy Hargrove and Wynton Marsalis as artists moving away from the electric, experimental sound  toward new-soul with strong bebop influence.
After putting out albums displaying his expertise in the the foundation of jazz, Payton began to venture closer toward the wild electronic side of jazz previously explored by Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock.
With each album, Payton pushes into new territory with the familiarity and elegance of a true master. After a lifetime of learning and creating, Nicholas Payton has established himself as an artist fluent in the language of music, learning from the past and pushing music further with each album.
