The lawsuit over a breach of contract between LSU and former defensive coordinator John Chavis has been settled, according to a report by The Advocate.
Chavis departed from LSU in January 2015 for the defensive coordinator job at Texas A&M after the Tigers’ 31-28 loss to Notre Dame in the Music City Bowl.
Chavis filed a lawsuit against LSU in February of that year, saying that the school owed him more than $205,000 in unpaid incentives according to previous reports by The Daily Reveille.
LSU filed a counter lawsuit against Chavis, stating that Chavis owed the school a $400,000 buyout for leaving prior to the end of his contract. Chavis’ contract was set to expire on Feb. 1, 2015, but LSU claimed that Chavis was working for Texas A&M in January.
Chavis countered by claiming LSU altered the wording in his contract without his knowledge, thus voiding the original contract.
The lawsuit has gone on for 30 months, with neither side budging until last week. The details of the settlement between the two sides have not yet been announced.
