The LSU Ag Center does work and research in many fields including gardening, livestock, crops and fisheries. They have multiple research centers all over the state and multiple opportunities for their students to get involved.
Marijuana will soon become a big part of the Ag Center’s research as they have finally signed a contract with a vendor to begin growing and researching marijuana for medicinal purposes. They will extract and use the oil from the plant to produce different medications for people with illnesses that require this treatment.
Students will not be able to involved in this project at this time, but there is a possibility of student involvement in the future. The highly secure facility that holds the plants is located in East Baton Rouge Parish and does not allow public access.
LSU and Southern University are the only two schools with this opportunity at this time.
