LSU offensive tackle Toby Weathersby has spent the entire off-season mentally preparing for his team’s opening game against BYU on Saturday. However as a Houston native, he now has more important things on his mind.
Hurricane Harvey has brought devastation to Houston, and among those affected are Weathersby’s grandparents who remain in their home as the flood water rises.
“It’s gonna get worse,” Weathersby said. “We’re just hoping and praying.”
While it is difficult to remain positive in such difficult circumstances, Weathersby receives well-wishes and support from his teammates.
Teammates Danny Etling and DJ Chark wish the best for Weathersby and other teammates who have been impacted by the hurricane, but they try to keep their focus on the season opener.
“It’s another distraction you can’t let take you away from football,” says starting quarterback Danny Etling. ”We have enough support here that if they ever need any help, they can always call on us.”
LSU will kickoff against BYU on Saturday, September 2 at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN. The location has not yet been determined.
