Following their 35-point loss to the Florida Gators on Wednesday, the LSU Men’s Basketball team needs to improve defensively.
The Tigers allowed 106 points and allowed 19 three-pointers to the Gators. The Gators shot 36 for 64 (56.3%) from the floor and outrebounded the Tigers by 9.
LSU’s opponents are averaging just above 80 points per game against the them and sophomore guard Antonio Blakeney knows something has to change.
“We got to try to change our defensive mentality,” Blakeney said. “People may think, you know, its easy to score on us. You know people are scoring 100 points, 90 points, 80 points, whatever the case may be. So we gotta change who we are defensively.”
Freshman guard Skylar Mays scored 13 points and 7 assists in the game and he also commented on the Tigers’ defensive effort.
“They made some tough shots, but we have to attribute it, most of it, to our defensive effort,” Mays said. “We’re just not putting great effort in to the defensive end right now.”
The loss to the Gators moves the Tigers to 9-10 on the season and 1-7 in Southeastern Conference play. The Tigers travel to Lubbock, Texas to face Texas Tech on Saturday, Jan. 28 for the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
