The LSU swimming & diving team competed in a quad meet against Rice, Tulane, and Houston on Friday and Saturday.
The women’s 200 meter freestyle relay team had an exciting day Saturday when they broke the long-standing pool record for their event.
“I think the ladies were just really ready to go with it being the last race of the day,” said assistant coach Steve Mellor. “They were very much doing it for one another.”
The record is the fastest time ever swam for a women’s 200 meter freestyle relay since 2009.
“The same women that broke the pool record eight years ago actually broke the school record at SEC’s that year,” Mellor said. “So I think our four ladies now have certainly got that one as the next goal on the agenda.”
The team will have their next competition during the SEC Championships at the University of Tennessee on Feb. 14.
