LSU landed four players on the Associated Press’ All-SEC first team and two on second team, the AP announced Monday.
Cornerback Greedy Williams became the first freshman defender in LSU history to be named to the first team. Williams led the SEC in interceptions with five and is the first freshman since Brad Wing in 2011 to earn the first team honor.
Williams was joined by sophomore linebacker Devin White, junior edge rusher Arden Key and center Will Clapp.
White led the conference in tackles and earned the league’s defensive player of the week honor four times throughout the regular season, the only player in SEC history to do so.
Junior running back Derrius Guice and senior wide receiver DJ Chark made the second team selection.
Guice and Key were preseason All-SEC first team picks, but struggled with injuries all season. While battling a knee injury, Guice made his way to fifth place on LSU’s all-time rushing list and just the fifth running back to have multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons.
Clapp, LSU’s lone offensive player on first team, was also named a finalist for the Rimington, given to the best center in the country.
This was Clapp’s first season player at center, filling in for former Tiger Ethan Pocic. LSU faced many offensive line woes, but Clapp seemed to be the only stable piece of the puzzle through the year with senior tackle K.J. Malone and junior tackle Toby Weathersby missing time with injuries.
