Manship Ambassadors and Tigers for Haiti are teaming up to host a kickball tournament fundraiser for Haiti disaster relief on Saturday. Katie Cicardo, Manship ambassador and mass communication senior, said between five and 10 teams are expected to participate in “Kickin’ for Haiti,” but more are welcome. Participants must donate $10 to play, and groups must consist of 10 players. Students who don’t have a team can still participate or just come out to watch the game, Cicardo said.Mimie Laurant, Tigers for Haiti chairperson, said all proceeds will go to Partners in Health, a non-profit health care organization that’s been working in Haiti for the past 20 years.”We looked at a number of different charities and presented it to the group, and Partners in Health received a unanimous vote,” Laurant said. “They operate some of the largest hospitals in Haiti.”Laurant said Tigers for Haiti will use Partners in Health as their primary fund recipient for all future fundraisers.
“We plan to form a solid partnership with them in the future,” she said.
The kickball tournament will start Saturday at 10 a.m. on the Parade Ground. Students and the Baton Rouge community are welcome to participate, and participants can show up on the day of the event.”Right now, the people of Haiti really need our support,” Cicardo said. “As LSU students, it’s our responsibility to focus our efforts on helping others less fortunate.”During Groovin’ on the Grounds, Tigers for Haiti will also be selling T-shirts for $9, with $2 going to the Haiti relief fund, and wristbands for $3.
