It was the men’s basketball team’s chance at redemption against Auburn and 35 LSU students’ chance to cheer for them Saturday. The team lost, 74-59, but the Student Government-sponsored bus trip was a success, said Brandon Briggs, Student Government assistant director of athleticsThis was SG’s second bus trip of the year, and Briggs said there will be more bus trips next year. “The trip went so well,” Briggs said. “Everything went perfect except for the game.”Trevor Diez, economics sophomore, said the best part of the trip was the beginning of the game — before Auburn took a 10-point lead.Diez and Derek Anders, business sophomore, attended the Auburn baseball game against University of Missouri before the LSU basketball game started. “It was fun to be on a foreign campus with a group of LSU kids screaming their heads off,” Diez said.Anders said he was in economics class when registration for the trip opened at 8 a.m. on Jan. 29, but he was still one of the first to secure a spot.Cameron Parker, SG Senate athletics committee chair and College of Education senator, said he signed up for the trip to observe other SEC schools’ athletic departments.”I really enjoy other SEC campuses and how they run things,” Parker said. “They were doing a promotion because it was Auburn’s second to last game in [Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum].”In the future, Briggs said he wants to expand the trip to multiple buses instead of one.Ace St. Romain, history senior, said he’d like to go on another bus trip, especially if it was for a baseball game”Watching all LSU sports and getting to go to away games is nice to support them,” St. Romain said.Briggs said the students who signed up stayed excited during the game, despite the loss.”They were doing all the chants and not just sitting down,” Briggs said.SG allowed 45 students to sign up for the bus trip on a first-come, first-served basis. Four students dropped out ahead of time, and six did not show up for the trip. The trip cost $25, but that amount did not cover many of the trip’s expenses. SG’s sponsors helped fund most of the trip.—-Contact Catherine Threlkeld at [email protected]
