The LSU School of Art’s Glassell Gallery is auctioning off more than 70 Mardi Gras masks tonight created by local artists.
The artists were given blank masks and told to decorate them any way they wanted, said Malia Krolak, gallery coordinator for the School of Art.
“Traditionally, [Mardi Gras] is your last big party before you have to give up chocolate for lent,” Krolak said. “That ties into the creative community very well.”
The masks are on display in the gallery all day today, and a silent auction will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. All proceeds from the sale of the masks will go to the School of Art.
