Chancellor Michael Martin explained Wednesday the impacts a $5.1 million mid-year cut will have on the University in a memo to faculty, staff and students.
Martin said LSU will meet the cut by “reducing funding to several areas of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, including the Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab and the Arbovirus Testing Program; changing the source of funds for graduate assistant tuition exemptions; utilizing funds generated by tuition and fees from a higher-than expected freshman enrollment; and transferring the Academic Center for Student Athletes to the Athletic Department.”
Martin pointed out that LSU and other teaching institutions within the LSU System were “given higher budget cuts so that the LSU AgCenter and Pennington Biomedical Research Center could be spared larger mid-year cuts.”
Martin said the new cut brings LSU’s total losses to $47 million in 22 months.
A news release detailing the cuts will be sent out later today.
