LSU sophomore linebacker Kyle Prater is transferring to Rice, according to a report by FOX 26 Sports in Houston.
Prater was a former all-state player for Tivy High School in Kerrville, Texas, and a Scout.com three-star recruit.
The 6-foot-1-inch, 224-pound linebacker will have two more years of eligibility with the Owls after sitting out a year per transfer rules.
The linebacker told FOX 26 a lack of playing time and the changing of the defensive philosophy lead to his decision to leave the Tigers.
Prater also considered transferring to Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Baylor or Louisiana Tech.
