Since Lebron James made the groundbreaking move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat, forming the “big three” with Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade back in 2010, it seems the NBA has never been the same.
For the past five-10 years, NBA teams have tried to recreate the success that James, Wade and Bosh brought the city of Miami. The closest NBA fans have seen since the original “big three” is the Golden State Warriors compiling together Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry. This squad won back-to-back NBA titles in 2017-2018, while only losing 15 out of 82 games in 2017.
While the 2010-2014 Heat and 2017-2018 Warriors could arguably be the two best teams the NBA has ever seen on the court, there seems to be a new sheriff in town.
The Brooklyn Nets pulled out all the stops by seizing an opportunity when they saw one in James Harden. Harden was upset with the Houston Rockets organization and made that known publicly. With Kyrie Irving and Durant already rostered for the Nets, Harden is the missing piece of the trifecta to take over the league.
Since Harden has arrived in Brooklyn ,the Nets are now the highest scoring team in the NBA, averaging 122 points a game.
Harden may be the current hot topic in Brooklyn, but Durant has been a workhorse for the squad up to this point in the season. Durant is currently leading the Nets in all major statistical categories, while averaging 30 points per contest.
It’s also hard to speak on this star-studded group of players without talking about the wheeling and dealing guard himself, Irving. “Uncle Drew” is averaging 28 points per game, while continuously leaving defenders seemingly helpless off the dribble.
The trio of Harden, Irving and Durant are combining on average 82 points per contest. With those types of numbers moving forward, a more adequate nickname for this threesome would be the “colossal three.”
