Seven Missouri players will miss their game against LSU on Saturday after one tested positive for COVID-19 and six were forced into quarantine, Head Coach Eli Drinkwitz said on his Thursday radio show. 
The six quarantined players came into contact with the one COVID-positive player, Drinkwitz said. The whole team underwent testing on Thursday, according to SEC protocols. 
The positive case marks the first real test of SEC testing and contact tracing protocols. The Reveille reported on Sept. 23 changes to the conference’s testing regimen.
Member schools were originally required to test athletes in “high-risk” sports three times a week, with PCR tests on Sundays and Wednesdays and an antigen test on Friday. Now, players must undergo three PCR tests a week on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.  
A PCR test, or a polymerase chain reaction test, is a molecular test and one of two types of diagnostic COVID-19 tests. The other kind, an antigen test, is faster and cheaper than the traditional PCR, but significantly less accurate, the FDA says. 
Missouri is scheduled to host LSU on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. CST.
