LSU men’s golf is in fifth place Monday after day two of the Vanderbilt Legends Intercollegiate event, the same place they found themselves at the end of the day Sunday.
The team finished day two with a score of 9-under 275, giving them a total of 17-under 551 going into the third and final day of play on Tuesday.
Connor Gaunt and Garrett Barber lead the way for the Tigers. Both are currently tied for seventh through Monday with 9-under 133’s. Gaunt edged slightly over Barber on day two with a 5-under 66, which ended with three birdies and an eagle in the final five holes, compared to Barber’s 3-under 68. Barber ended the day on a high note, birdieing five of his final seven holes after he found himself at 2-over through 11.
Trey Winstead and Philip Barbaree are further down the leaderboard, tied for 45th place. Winstead shot a 1-under 70 on Monday, while Barbaree shot an even 71. Both have 1-over 143’s heading into play on Tuesday. Freshman Drew Doyle, making his first career start, finished play Monday with a 1-over 72 on the day to bring his total to 2-over 144 in his collegiate debut.
Vanderbilt’s Matthew Riedel and Arkansas’ Julian Perico are currently tied for the top spot with scores of 12-under 130 through two days of play. As a team, Vanderbilt holds a 10 stroke lead over second place Texas A&M with a 32-under 536.
LSU closes out play Tuesday, teeing off at 9:20 a.m. CT accompanied by Florida and Arkansas.
