LSU sophomore pitcher Zack Hess recorded a career high 13 strikeouts against Toledo on March 2nd, just a week after setting a previous career high 10 strikeouts against Texas on February 23rd.
“I’m really, really proud of Zack and the job that he’s doing and the leadership that he’s providing,” LSU head coach Paul Mainieri says about the sophomore pitcher.
Hess’s 13 strikeouts were the first time an LSU pitcher had 13 strikeouts since Alex Lange did so in 2015 against Kentucky.
The Tigers offense was rather stagnant against the Rockets. LSU scored three runs in the first two innings, but the Tigers did not find home plate again until the the seventh inning, when Hunter Feduccia hit a grand slam.
“Their left-hander kind of settled in and stopped us for three or four innings, and finally when he came out of the game, we took advantage of them walking bases loaded.”
The Tigers next game is Saturday, March 3rd against Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart Athletic Director Bobby Valentine will be in attendance and may possibly throw the first pitch.
“How many people in the stands will know who Bobby Valentine is? You’ll have to talk to anyone over 40. They’ll know who Bobby Valentine is.”
First pitch is 6 p.m.
“He was obviously in total control out there,” LSU HC Paul Mainieri on Zack Hess’s career high 13Ks
