Conservative political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos will discuss “liberal hypocrisy” and Sharia Law at LSU on April 11.
The event falls on the same night that Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman will speak in the PMAC.
The event is hosted by the College Republicans of LSU. It will take place at 6 p.m. in the LSU Union Theater. The event is open to the public, and tickets can be purchased on the club’s Facebook page.
Executive adviser of College Republicans of LSU David Walters, III said they chose the date because the theater was booked most of the semester. Walters said he is not worried about the event conflicting with Raisman’s appearance at the same time.
“Doesn’t really bother me either,” Walters said. “Last time he came there was a diversity event and [Yiannopoulos] still sold out.”
Walters said Yiannopoulos will address local and statewide issues in his speech, but the main focus of the event will be on “liberal hypocrisy” and Sharia Law.
“[Milo] has never done a speech about this,” Walters said. “When we were brainstorming, our first thought was to make the event be Sharia Law compliant. We want to educate people about Sharia Law and about the culture.”
The event was announced on the group’s Facebook page. Yiannopoulos spoke at the University in September 2016 as part of “The Dangerous Faggot Tour” in the weeks leading up to the 2016 Presidential Election.
Yiannopoulos was the senior editor of Breitbart News, but resigned in February 2017 after a video leaked in which he made controversial statements regarding pedophilia.
