If you’re looking for a sappy romance, “Every Day” is perfect for you. It takes the saying “it’s like falling in love all over again” and puts a whole new spin on it. “Every Day” breaks down all the barriers and breaks the rules society has put on love. In this film, love has no face, no gender and no boundaries. It displays love exactly the way it is.
The film follows a spirit that goes by “A.” A is able to switch bodies every day and is always the same age but never in the same body twice. It isn’t until A wakes up in the body of Justin does their life really begin. A spends the day with Justin’s girlfriend and A can’t help but fall in love with her. Rhiannon, Justin’s girlfriend, is entranced by her boyfriend’s new attitude but is disappointed the next day when Justin is once again problematic, and to his dismay, has no memory of the previous day.
After meeting Rhiannon, A wakes up in a new body, wearing a new face but has the same feelings for Rhiannon. As the story goes on, you see that A is about more than just hopping from body to body. They live life one day at a time and show the audience that one day can really change your entire life. The love that blooms between A and Rhiannon is just the start of both of their stories.
Rhiannon and A’s relationship really redefines how we see love. A hops around the bodies of multiple different people with different genders, ethnicities and personalities, and every day they get Rhiannon to fall in love with them. Rhiannon is falling in love with a soul — not a face — and that is what makes it so special.
Many well known actors made an appearance in the film, including Jacob Batalon, Justice Smith and Debby Ryan. With so many actors playing the same character, there were a few issues with the personality continuity of A. All of the actors were trying to be the same person, so sometimes it came across differently. Something that’s really important with a movie like this is that each actor has to have the same understanding of the character.
With a plot so obviously focused on the love story between two souls, it is no shock that it’s so sappy. If the intent was to make a date-night movie, or just a heartbreaking drama film, then they succeeded. They made a movie everyone can relate to because everyone is represented. With so many characters, there is a little bit of everyone in this film. What makes this film great is that it isn’t your everyday love story. It’s special, new and definitely worth your time.
