With LSU’s spring game now one week away, the Tigers held an indoor scrimmage on Saturday afternoon with some of the biggest stars making an impact. LSU coach Ed Orgeron called Saturday the best scrimmage of the spring.
The team started the day with kickoffs and some red zone and goal line drills incorporated in the scrimmage. Orgeron said he wanted to treat Saturday’s scrimmage as a game.
“I wanted to have a day where both the offense and the defense could have a good day,” Orgeron said.
Quarterbacks showing steady improvement
The first team offense scored twice on the first team defense for the first time all spring. Each of the three quarterbacks exchanged time in the scoring series with the ball starting at the 40 yard line.
Sophomore Myles Brennan started and went 10-of-20 for 98 yards while Lowell Narcisse was 7-of-10 for 143 yards and Justin McMillan threw for 62 yards on 5-of-16 passing.
Orgeron said Narcisse had several snaps with the first team offense and did very well in his time.
The offense will run similarly whether Brennan or Narcisse wins the starting job but Orgeron said Brennan would be in more pocket passing situations while Narcisse would do more quarterback runs.
“Lowell stood out today,” Orgeron said. “He had some scrambles and some big passes but he’s improved everyday. We threw the ball very well today as a whole. We had a couple of drops so we have to fix that.”
Edwards-Helaire has a big day on the ground
Other than quarterback, one of the glaring positions to fill is the running back spot and the sophomore stepped up today running for 109 yards on 18 carries and scored five touchdowns.
Senior running back Nick Brossette on the other hand, ran for 32 yards on 16 carries.
“A lot of Clyde’s carries were against the second team defense,” Orgeron said. “He did a fantastic job.”
