Former University Chancellor Paul W. Murrill died at age 83 on Monday, April 2.
Murrill “passed away peacefully,” according to the funeral notice in The Advocate.
Murrill served as chancellor from 1974 until he resigned in 1981, according to the University’s website.
Murrill was an engineer and held several high ranking positions throughout his career including CEO and chairman of Gulf States Utilities Co., director for Entergy Corporation and the lead director of the board of directors for Tidewater, according to a press release by Tidewater in 2005.
“Chancellor Murrill showed exceptional strength and leadership during his time at LSU. His dedication to this university can still be felt on campus today. His legacy will live through his family and through the impact of his service to LSU,” President F. King Alexander said.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
