LSUPD officer Kevin Scott resigned after he was involved in a secret recording from the investigation into missing University student Michael Nickelotte, Jr. Scott, along with four other LSUPD officers, made several comments about Nickelotte and his father. Nickelotte was later discovered to have committed suicide.
According to WAFB, four other LSUPD officers were disciplined for their involvement in the recording. The recording was discovered by Nickelotte’s family, who reported it to University officials. The recording was then obtained by WAFB after a public records request.
The recording featured Scott and other officers discussing Nickelotte’s father’s comments on his plan to locate his son. They also discussed how Nickelotte, Sr. asked the officers to search the lakes.
Nickelotte went missing during the early hours of Sept. 18, and was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sept. 29.
