In the heat of former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar’s sexual assault case and the #MeToo movement, the safety of collegiate athletes is crucial. Senior Associate Athletics Director, Miriam Seger, believes the most important way to protect student athletes is through education.
“The most important thing about what we try to do is educate all of our student athletes, our coaches and our staff about the law and being a mandatory reporter,” said Seger.
LSU athletics annually educates its team doctors in addition to educating its athletes on LSU cares and the on-campus title IX officer if an incident occurs. To ensure safety, LSU “always [has] someone else in the room with the doctor and the athlete,” said Seger.
