“Sharp Objects,” HBO

Starring Amy Adams and Louisiana’s own Patricia Clarkson, HBO’s “Sharp Objects” tells the story of Camille Preaker, a reporter with a troubled past who is sent back to her quiet hometown to investigate the gruesome murders of two local girls. As the mini-series progresses and Preaker’s secrets begin to unfold, it quickly becomes clear that her hometown has some secrets of its own. We don’t want to give too much away, but if dark crime dramas are up your alley, you’re in luck  — “Sharp Objects’” first and only season has already wrapped up, so the time to binge watch is now.

“Nina Cried Power,” Hozier

Andrew Hozier-Byrne released his long-awaited EP, titled “Nina Cried Power,” on Sept. 6. The Irish musician’s style is a blend of indie-rock, soul, blues and R&B. The singer-songwriter has been known to address social issues in his music, like his single “Take Me to Church,” inspired by Russia’s smear campaign against homosexuality. Though short, “Nina Cried Power” is charged with emotion, from regret (“Shrike,”) to pride of a significant other (“NFWMB”). Hozier has expressed plans for a new album in the coming year.

Good On You – Ethical Fashion App

Eco-friendly is the way to go, y’all. Consume responsibly and check to see how ethical your favorite clothing and beauty brands really are. This app gives companies ethical ratings based on three categories: labor rights, animal protection and environmental impact.

“Sierra Burgess Is a Loser,” Netflix

Though “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser” didn’t initially live up to our expectations, Netflix’s latest rom-com is still a success for the streaming giant. Starring Shannon Purser from “Stranger Things” and Noah Centineo from “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” along with newcomer Kristine Froseth, the movie features an accidental catfish plot, unlikely friendships and a few wacky supporting characters. Either way, we stayed in on a Friday night to watch the new release, proving Netflix can compete with the box office.

Music video worth mentioning: “Feels Like Summer,” Childish Gambino

Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, is no stranger to producing culturally relevant music videos. Post ”This is America,” Gambino’s “Feels Like Summer” is an animated five-minute short with 62 characters depicting aspects of black life in America.
