There is not much more that you can ask for from a Top 5 team that is undefeated going into week six. But, with LSU’s history of a dominant defense, Head Coach Ed Orgeron is expecting more out of his defense.
“Nowhere near. We haven’t played a complete game yet,” Orgeron said. “We have to remain hungry. We have to play our best to beat anybody. Every team in the SEC is going to be a challenge.”
Orgeron wants to see more pressure on the quarterback from the defense as well as fix the lull that they seem to have in the third quarter.
“We’re trying to figure it out,” Orgeron said. “We still didn’t do the things we need to do. We’ll fix the third quarter. That’s the least of my problems right now.”
Sophomore safety Grant Delpit knows the legacy that defense backs have at LSU, and he is trying to live up to the expectations.
“Just trying to live up to the standards of DBU,” Delpit said. “We’ve got to shut them down.”
Even though the Tiger’s defense did not play a complete game, at the end of the day, linebacker Devin White was happy with their performance.
“I guess we didn’t have the same energy, but we won the game,” White said.
As the Tigers head into the bulk of their SEC competition, if they want to stay undefeated, the defense is going to have to step up.
