The University’s Interfraternity Council announced in a press release its decision to suspend the addition of new members and new member programs while the University waits for the Task Force on Greek Life to make its final recommendations.
“During a special meeting of the IFC Friday, January 19, 2018, the IFC executive board proposed this resolution and it passed,” the organization said in the press release. “In order to provide safe and positive experiences for all who wish to join one of our organizations, we must take advantage of the opportunity to review and reflect on our current practices.”
The Task Force on Greek Life was formed by LSU President F. King Alexander in September following the death of Phi Delta Theta pledge Maxwell Gruver. The task force contains representatives from different departments and organizations within the University, including former Interfraternity Council President Mason Tusa.
The task force was supposed to meet Jan. 16, but the meeting was postponed due campus closing because of inclement weather. The task force will make its final recommendations by Jan. 30.
