The LSU gymnastics team gave Head Coach D-D Breaux the best birthday present that she could have asked for, defeating Alabama in the PMAC to a sold-out crowd with a record-breaking 13,729 people in attendance.
LSU was able to clinch their third victory of the season by defeating Alabama 197.45 to 196.725 despite having two Tigers fall, one on beam and the other on floor.
“We had some fumbles tonight,” Breaux said. “But, the next person picked up the ball and ran with it, and we scored a victory. Every team should have that as their mantra: win.”
Junior Julianna Cannamela closed out the meet for the Tigers filling in for an injured Kennedi Edney as floor anchor.
“When I landed my last pass, I cried a little bit,” Cannamela said. “I was so happy. I knew I could do it. Like D-D said, I do it every day in practice.”
The No. 1 Tigers will head to Fort Worth next weekend to compete against NC State, Washington and UCLA in the Metroplex Challenge.
