Former 459 Commons chef charged with theft
A 459 Commons chef was caught on camera March 21 stealing $422.25 worth of money, food and supplies.
Spencer King, 33, of 9149 Trudeau Ave., stole $150 and uncooked chickens, hamburgers, seasoning and cooking supplies from the dining hall and was seen on tape loading the items into his vehicle, said Det. Jason Bettencourtt, LSU Police Department spokesman.
The University reported the theft March 22 to LSUPD, who showed the security videos to 459 Commons employees.
King was identified on the tape and police went to his residence on March 23. Officers recovered a mixing bowl and a storage container from his home, Bettencourtt said.
LSUPD arrested King on March 24 and booked him in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
King was charged with theft of more than $300 and eventually lost his job, Bettencourtt said.
Student caught with 177 grams of marijuana
LSUPD officers found 6.2 ounces of marijuana on March 24 in a vehicle on campus and charged a University student with possession with intent to sell and possession of paraphernalia.
LSUPD saw James Denhollem, 18, of 10111 Salinas Drive in Shreveport, selling marijuana in a hand-to-hand transaction at 1:30 a.m. with three other people, Bettencourtt said.
Bettencourtt said the three people were released after admitting they had bought marijuana from Denhollem, but disposed of it when they saw LSUPD officers.
Officers escorted Denhollem to his residential college where he admitted he had marijuana in his car, Bettencourtt said.
Police searched his room and his vehicle. They found no illegal items in his room, but found a digital scale and two bags with 177 grams of marijuana in Denhollem’s vehicle, Bettencourtt said.
Denhollem was arrested and booked in EBR Parish Prison.
19-year-old man receives DWI
A man unaffiliated with the University received a DWI and improper lane usage March 25 after swerving into the oncoming traffic lane on Highland Road.
LSUPD officers observed Adrian Lopez, 19, of 1301 Belshire Street in Pasadena, Texas, swerving at 3:15 a.m. in a red Toyota going north after swerving into the oncoming traffic lane for 50 to 57 feet, Bettencourtt said.
Lopez was stopped near The Varsity Theatre where he failed sobriety tests before being transported to the LSUPD office, Bettencourtt said.
Lopez took a breathalyzer test and registered a 0.102 BAC before being booked in EBR Parish Prison, Bettencourtt said.
Student charged with five counts of vehicle burglary
A University student was charged with five counts of simple motor vehicle burglary, possession of an illegal weapon, drug paraphernalia and a schedule II narcotic on March 26 during Groovin’ on the Grounds.
Jason Bush, 20, of 535 Daventry Drive, was reported as a suspicious person looking into vehicles to LSUPD during the event.
When officers tried to approach Bush he took off running and was captured near the School of Music, Bettencourtt said.
Bettencourtt said police found brass knuckles and a roxicodone pill when Bush was searched and recovered stolen items in his vehicle.
Bush was booked in EBR Parish Prison and his investigation is pending because of possible relations to other vehicle burglaries, Bettencourtt said.
Man arrested for domestic abuse during Beerfest
A man unaffiliated with the University was arrested for domestic battery March 26 at the Zapp’s International Beer Festival at the Rural Life Museum.
Dorsey Knott, 40, 1108 Bushville Highway in Arnaudville, was reported to LSUPD at 4:50 p.m. after he open hand slapped his wife near the drinking tent, Bettencourtt said.
Knott’s wife told officers she did not want her husband to go to jail and grabbed the officer despite being told not to touch the officer, Bettencourtt said.
Knott was arrested and placed in EBR Parish Prison.
Man receives DWI, weapon and vehicle related charges
A man unaffiliated with the University was charged with illegal weapon, having a weapon in a firearm free zone, failing to dim lights and illegal blue lights March 27 after being pulled over for a DWI.
Police pulled over Matthew Kyzar, 23, 14286 Oak Meadow Street in Gonzales, after police noticed a white Acura traveling south on Highland Road at 1:45 a.m. with bright lights and three blue strobing lights, Bettencourtt said.
Kyzar was pulled over near South Campus Drive and when he exited the vehicle a folding knife fell from his lap, which he placed on the ground, Bettencourtt said.
Police found a pistol in Kyzar’s back pocket during a search on the scene, Bettencourtt said.
Kyzar failed sobriety tests and was transported to the LSUPD office where he blew a 0.029 BAC and admitted to taking Xanex that day. Kyzar then submitted to a urine sample, Bettencourtt said.
Kyzar was booked in EBR Parish Prison.
