The Board of Regents adopted changes to the funding formula Wednesday.
The possible revisions to the formula include:
– setting two-year and four-year institutions equidistant from their respective peer
groups
– aligning performance-based funds with LA GRAD Act student success goals
– using end of course counts to drive cost calculations
– establishing a maximum funding loss for impacted institutions
The revised formula must be approved by the Legislature.
The Board also reviewed the preliminary draft of the Funding Distribution Proposal Using Formula Redistributions for the fiscal year 2011-12. According to the document, the proposed distribution to the LSU System is about $225 million.
“We were given the Executive Budget and this is how we propose to distribute it,” said Regents Chairman Robert Levy. “But you and I both know it’s not going to come out that way.”
Once the final amount is determined, the funding will be given to the separate management boards. It will then be the decision of the individual systems on how to allocate the funds.
