After a day of successful preliminaries and adequate field performances Thursday, the LSU track and field teams finally notched event victories Friday at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
Senior Melissa Ogbourne claimed LSU’s first victory early in the day’s action by posting a 42-10 3/4 feet total in the women’s triple jump to take the title.
Senior All-American and Bowerman Award Candidate continued his unprecedented dominance with a third consecutive hammer throw victory at the Penn Relays by way of a 208-3 foot throw.
The squad of Semoy Hackett, Kimberlyn Duncan, Cassandra Tate and Rebecca Hall combined to run a 3:48.45 time for a win in the Championship of America sprint medley.
Lady Tiger junior Samia Stokes took third place in the women’s discus throw after a toss of 166-3 1/4 feet.
Three Lady Tigers qualified for Saturday’s 100-meter dash finals as Semoy Hackett and Kenyann Wilson won their preliminary heats and freshman Toshika Sylvester’s time of 11.70 seconds was good enough for the final qualifying spot.
Action continues for the LSU track and field teams at the Penn Relays on Saturday at 8 a.m. as the finals of the 100 and 200-meter dashes and relays are set to run throughout the day.
