Osama bin Laden, mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, was killed by a U.S. attack, President Barack Obama announced in a national address Sunday night.
Bin Laden was killed in Pakistan following a firefight, according to Obama. No Americans were harmed in the attack, he announced.
Obama said the attacked followed confirmation of findings that bin Laden was in Pakistan.
The body of bin Laden is in U.S. custody, Obama said.
The President cautioned the threat of terrorism and Al-Qaida has not diminished.
“We must and we will remain vigilant at home and abroad,” he said.
Obama said the U.S. is continuing to work with Pakistan to combat the threat of terrorism.
