The LSU men’s basketball team seems to have found its impact freshman. It just might not be the one everybody expected. While much of the hype and expectations were placed on freshman forward Johnny O’Bryant III coming into the 2011-12 campaign, it has been freshman point guard Anthony Hickey who has impressed most in this young season. Hickey was named to the Charleston Classic All-Tournament team after averaging 16 points per game and lifting LSU to a fifth-place finish and 2-1 record in the event. The Kentucky native made more than 50 percent of his field goal attempts, went 6-of-14 from beyond the arc, averaged 4.3 rebounds and 4 assists in the event while logging 32 minutes per contest. Hickey joins tournament MVP and Northwestern forward Drew Crawford, Wildcat forward John Shurna, Seton Hall’s Herb Pope and Carl James of St. Joseph’s on the All-Tourney squad. LSU lost its first-round game to Northwestern, which ended up winning the eight-team event, but responded by beating Western Kentucky and Georgia Tech. Hickey scored 20 points in the Sunday win against the Yellow Jackets.
