A speeding truck struck a man and a woman early Thursday morning in the 600 block of East Boyd Drive, eyewitnesses said.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m., when bars were closing, said Josh Miller, political science junior.
The victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to a Baton Rouge Police Department news release.
One victim is in stable condition and the other is in critical condition, the release said.
Miller said he watched the truck speed onto East Boyd from Burbank Drive, slamming into the victims before taking off.
Bryce Cohen, biology senior, said he was walking down East Boyd toward Nicholson Drive when he heard a loud noise and saw a truck speeding away.
“I looked behind me and realized there were people on the ground,” Cohen said.
Cohen and Miller said many witnesses called 911 and responded to the scene.
The woman was bleeding from her face and barely moving, and the man was not moving, Cohen said.
