Governor Bobby Jindal signed the GRAD Act 2.0 into law today at the Lod Cook Alumni Center, updating the LA GRAD Act by prioritizing student success metrics and granting operational autonomies to Louisiana colleges.
“Today is yet another important historic milestone in our work to improve higher education in Louisiana,” Jindal said at the signing.
The Act will encourage Louisiana colleges and universities to increase student metrics such as graduation, retention and completion rates, in exchange for more freedoms in the decisions on an institution’s staff, facilities, purchases and investments.
“This important piece of legislation empowers the people who work with our students on a daily basis — the ones who know best how to manage their own campuses — instead of trying to micromanage their activities from the state level,” Jindal said. “In exchange, campus leaders and GRAD Act agreements commit to graduating more students in less time in high demand fields that will jump-start their careers upon
