The Student Government Senate discussed upcoming events for the semester, including a potential expansion to the UREC Student Recreation Complex and additional funds from SG sponsorships, at its first meeting of the semester Wednesday.
SG President Cody Wells said he hopes to speak with Laurie Braden, UREC director, about expanding the UREC facilities.
“Our UREC is in need,” he said. “This is not a sealed deal, just a requirements.”
According to Wells, the average SEC recreation center amounts to 10 square feet per student, while LSU’s UREC facilities only amount to 4 square feet per student.
“We want to redefine what recreation means on campus,” he said. “I’m hoping we can bring an outdoor recreation center to campus and add some leisure activity. Maybe a now.”
Wells said more funds are available to be set aside for Groovin’ on the Grounds, and he has already starting making plans for future events, including a festival in April celebrating Louisiana heritage.
