After an impressive second-place finish at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational in Palm City, Florida, the LSU men’s golf team returns to Baton Rouge for the Tiger Classic, its lone home event this spring.
The Tigers (67-31-1) have been off to a hot start, and finished in first or second place in two of their first three events. Senior golfer Zach Wright has lead the Tigers’ cause, winning two of the three competitions he has started.
Wright defeated Texas A&M’s Chandler Phillips in a one-hole, sudden-death playoff to claim the individual crown at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, and secured his first victory in 2016 in LSU’s spring opener in the Prestige at PGA West.
The Tigers will have a some relief returning home after facing stacked fields featuring mostly ranked teams in each of spring’s first three competitions.
In the Tigers only other home event this season, LSU trounced the competition en route to a commanding 16-stroke victory against second place Kansas State at the David Toms Intercollegiate.
The Tiger Classic’s field is lighter competition than LSU has faced. The 36-hole, one-day event will feature no ranked squads other than the Tigers.
The field will be filled with mostly Louisiana universities — Lamar, University of New Orleans, Nicholls State, Southeastern and Jackson State.
LSU will be paired with Lamar and Southeastern when the event tees off and 8 a.m.
