The victim in Friday morning’s Student Union robbery told police he was walking along Infirmary Road when a man, later identified as Brice Poole, 26, stopped him, threatening that he had a gun and would use it, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The student recalled Poole telling him, “Stop walking. Here is how this is going to happen. I have a gun and I’ll use it. Give me everything you have on you and don’t say a word,” according to the affidavit.
However, the suspect then told the victim he wasn’t being serious, but he would need him to go to an ATM and retrieve $40 if he did not already have the money on him.
Because the student “felt threatened and felt he could not leave,” he walked with Poole to the Union and withdrew $40 from an ATM, which he handed over to Poole.
According to the affidavit, officers apprehended Poole, who matched the description provided by the victim — “wearing a dark shirt with Star Wars characters on it, jeans, a black vest and a brown hat.” Officers also spotted the suspect on a surveillance video “wearing yellow shoes.”
When he was told he was being arrested for armed robbery, Poole told the officers that the victim had given him the money.
Officers also searched Poole following his arrest and discovered he had “a pipe that is commonly used for smoking crack cocaine.” Poole told the officers he had spent the $40 on “dope.”
