When she turned 20, marketing senior Jana Richards made plans to start her own public relations-based blog “ROARIN’ Twenties.” Though Richards’ primary goal blog was to motivate and network 20-somethings, her blog is open for everyone’s enjoyment.
Noticing many people in their twenties going unrecognized for their talents and accomplishments, Richards created “ROARIN’ Twenties” to specifically market young adults transitioning into the professional world.
Since its launch on Aug. 1, “ROARIN’ Twenties” promotes Richards’ artistic clients’ upcoming events, including art shows, concerts and benefits. For instance, performances by Michael Seaberry at Harambee and a music video release by Malcolm Johnson are featured on the blog.
“I believe that everyone has a story,” Richards said. “As much as this is work for me, this has also been a learning experience.”
For as long as Richards can remember, she has loved live music. Drawing from her fondly remembered concert experiences in Tiger Stadium, she dreams of opening a chain of event venues similar to the House of Blues.
Richards’ passion for music fueled her desire to see her musically-inclined contemporaries succeed.
Richards provides bi-weekly updates on photographers, poets, disc jockeys and artists and informs readers of her members’ upcoming events and accolades. She shines a spotlight on herself, as well.
With talented members ranging from poets to organization founders, Richards puts her marketing skills to the test. She prides herself on building lasting relationships with her clientele and posting their subsequent achievements.
Using social media as a scouting tool, she sets up a personal interview with each prospective member to get a feel for their potential.
“I feel like one day I will meet someone that has the life that I want, and I will have the opportunity to do a story on them and that person will be the key to my success,” Richards said. “My motivation is to strive for what I really want.”
Hoping to bring her blog to a global audience, Richards constantly searches for talent. Citing social media as her main resource, she advertises for “ROARIN’ Twenties” on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to attract new clientele.
If “ROARIN’ Twenties” receives widespread acknowledgement, Richards plans to transform her blog into a complete brand, forming an organization that provides ongoing networking events.
“The time to mold your future is now,” Richards said. “Don’t let your life go to waste to where you are stuck … doing something you don’t love.”
