What to watch for
LSU injuries
(Prior to LSU, Ole Miss’ 8 p.m. kickoff, this post will be updated with news, notes and tidbits for Saturday’s game at Tiger Stadium.)
Ed Orgeron is expected to coach Leonard Fournette for the first time in-game today versus Ole Miss.
Fournette has missed LSU’s previous two games — and wins — against Southern Miss and Missouri. Since, sophomore tailback Derrius Guice has plunged for 163 and 162 yards with five total touchdowns during the span.
And, he’s rushed for consecutive 100-yard games behind an evolving offensive line.
Left guard Will Clapp, who was in a bulky shoulder sling as recently as last week, is expected to start when LSU hosts the Rebels Saturday — redesigning LSU’s offensive front once again.
“The only one that’s not ready to go is Toby (Weathersby),” Orgeron said Thursday. “All the other guys are rested and ready to go. We feel like Clapp is going to be able to play. So we’re ready to go.”
Clapp’s return, and Weathersby’s expected absence, bump senior center Ethan Pocic back to center from right tackle as Maea Teuhema is expected to return to right tackle instead of left guard — Clapp’s position.
- LSU’s (expected) offensive line vs. Ole Miss (from left tackle to right tackle): K.J. Malone, Clapp, Pocic, Josh Boutte, Teuhema.
Additionally, true freshman nose tackle Ed Alexander fractured a bone in his hand, Orgeron said, yet has passed transfer nose tackle Travonte Valentine on the depth chart. Both are expected to play versus Ole Miss.
