LSU continued its road trip Sunday afternoon against Vanderbilt University looking to bounce back after its loss to South Carolina.
The Tigers (6-6-0, 1-3-0 SEC) entered Nashville looking to recover from their loss to South Carolina on Thursday. The Tigers would not bounce back losing to Vanderbilt University (7-4-0, 3-1-0 SEC).
The Commodores snapped a three-game losing streak to LSU with the 3-0 win Sunday afternoon dating back to 2011.
Vanderbilt opened scoring in the 23rd minute when freshman midfielder Grace Jackson netted a header off of a throw-in from senior defender Sasha Gray.
The Tigers nearly answered back, when junior forward Jorian Baucom got an open look from near the penalty marker but missed wide right.
The Commodores again scored in the 29th minute when the Tigers defensive didn’t get back fast enough before freshman forward Hannon Eberts netted a goal stretching the lead to 2-0.
Senior forward Summer Clarke nearly cut into the deficit in the 41st minute with a shot that was punched away by Vanderbilt’s junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Fahrner keeping the 2-0 advantage for Vanderbilt.
The Tigers and Commodores would go into the half 2-0. LSU had four shots in the first half with three of them on goal.
Vanderbilt came out of the break looking to ice the game. The Commodores would do just that when in the 56th minute junior defender Cristina De Zeeuw headed home a corner kick off the foot of junior midfielder Lydia Simmons.
The Tigers would nearly score in when freshman midfielder Marlena Cutura nailed a shot to the far post from a short corner off the foot of Clarke. The shot would again be punched away by Fahrner.
Zeeuw’s goal would mark the last goal of the game. The Tigers had 13 shots on the game with eight of them being on goal. The Commodores had 10 shots with six of them on goal.
The Tigers will look to bounce back from their two-straight losses Friday, Sept. 30 at home against No. 9 Florida.
