Man charged with sixth offense DUI
On June 22, Brandon Michael Dean, 35, was charged with his sixth offense DUI and improper lane usage following a traffic stop on Highland Road at 3:15 a.m, said LSUPD spokesperson Lt. Kevin Scott. Officers conducted a standardized field sobriety test that revealed several signs of intoxication. Dean said he had smoked marijuana and believed he had ingested crystal methamphetamine when he was given a cup of coffee by an unknown acquaintance, Scott said. Officers transported Dean to LSUPD headquarters where he blew a 0.000 percent BAC and refused to submit to a urine sample.
Student arrested for making false statements to LSUPD
23-year-old student Oluwaseyi Bamgbola was issued a summons for criminal mischief on June 15 following a false report to LSUPD claiming he was robbed by a panhandler at the Student Union, Scott said. Bamgbola admitted the report was false when addressed by officers. Bamgbola said he was upset after receiving a fake $100 bill when exchanging change for an unkmown man, Scott said.
Man arrested for DUI
On June 16, Tayari Ross, 45, was arrested for improper lane usage, reckless operation of a vehicle and DUI following a traffic stop on Highland Road, Scott said. Ross refused to submit a chemical sample during the stop and was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, Scott said.
Second student arrested for urinating on Sigma Chi fraternity house
20-year-old student Alexander McCollam was arrested for simple burglary and criminal mischief on June 16 in connection to following the June 8 incident at the Sigma Chi Fraternity house, Scott said. McCollam and University student Logan McCaughey urinated on the back door of the Sigma Chi Fraternity house, forced their way into the backyard and removed a chair before fleeing the scene, Scott said.
Man arrested after crash on River Road near Vet School
Benjamin Reed, 23, was issued a misdemeanor summons for DWI and careless operation of a vehicle after officers responded to a traffic crash on River Road. near the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine June 16, Scott said. When officers arrived at the scene they found Reed disoriented and confused near a heavily damaged Toyota 4Runner on the side of River Road, Scott said. Reed was determined to be the driver and was taken to Our Lady of the Lake after the Fire Department and EMS arrived on the scene. LSUPD officers met Reed at the hospital for further investigation, where they determined he was under the influence of alcohol based on personal statements, officer observations and clues of horizontal gaze nystagmus, Scott said. Reed refused to submit to a blood test.
Man arrested on outstanding warrant
On June 16, Kevin Georgetown, 27, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for simple burglary for the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office following a traffic stop, Scott said.
Student arrested for DUI
20-year-old student Kortlan Brown was arrested for his second DUI offense and careless operation of a vehicle following a traffic stop on Nicholson Drive June 18, Scott said. Officers initiated the traffic stop after Brown’s vehicle was seen swerving across travel lanes. Scott said the officers conducted a standardized field sobriety test before transporting Brown to LSUPD headquarters, where he submitted to a chemical test and blew a .169 percent BAC.
Man arrested for possession of marijuana
On June 21, 22-year-old student Cortez Brazil was issued a misdemeanor summons for possession of marijuana and improper lane usage following a traffic stop on West Lakeshore Drive, Scott said. During the stop, officers reported smelling marijuana in the vehicle. Scott said Brazil admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle when questioned by officers, consented to a vehicle search and wrote a voluntary statement claiming ownership of the marijuana.
